Stoneham Awarded Junior Sportsman of the Year 2017
On the 13th of January 2018, Simon Stoneham received a particularly rare achievement within the motorsports: Junior Sportsman of the Year (2017) from the HKRC Kimbolton Kart Club.
The JSotY award is given to a driver who displays a natural flair for racing, whilst also presenting maturity both on and off of the race circuit. Simon is renowned for showing a high level of maturity in the paddock and also respect for other drivers. The award is primarily based around the performance and level of sportsmanship shown by a driver over the course of the season. Simon ended up 6th out of 40 drivers overall and showed he had potential earning him the award.
The dinner and awarding event was held on the 13th of January (2018), at the Sharnbrook Hotel in Bedford, hosted by the HKRC team. For Simon, this evening was definitely one to remember. The food was of the highest of qualities, and the evening was, overall, simply great. After an incredible 3 course meal, the awards began. The honor meant for Simon was presented towards the end; it was a particularly special award. He was called up and merrily went to collect it, head to toe full of pride. He then managed to drop the trophy, but he prefers not to discuss that. After the awards, the evening came to a close. Simon was able to reflect on all of the hard work that he had put in over the previous year.
“What an honor it is to be here tonight collecting such a prestigious award; it is great to see that after a solid season our hard work paid off and it makes up for missing out on the championship podium.” Begun Stoneham. “I would like to thank all of my friends and family for the support, Jack Dex for managing me, Litchfield engines, and also Johnny (for the driver coaching and fitness training). Thank you all.” He finished with a smile upon his face, holding what was left of his trophy proudly.
